The winning tender for construction of the new Theatre Twyford building was announced on Wednesday 4 December 2019 by Member for Bega and Minister for Transport & Roads The Honourable Andrew Constance MP at a ceremony in Merimbula. Monarch Building Solutions’ winning bid was put to Twyford Hall Incorporated after a Governance Group – comprising representatives from Twyford Hall Inc, the Bega Valley Shire Council, the Department of Premier & Cabinet and CreateNSW – signed off on a thorough tendering process overseen by Project Managers Donald Cant Watts Cooke.

Monarch Building Solutions is a Canberra-based business whose commercial work includes retail spaces, offices, schools and entertainment venues, including the extension to The Street Theatre and the National Convention Centre upgrade. Mr Constance praised the project – the result of community fundraising and lobbying over nearly twenty years – which was able to finally proceed with the grant of $7.4 million from the NSW Government’s Regional Communities Development Fund.

Building work will begin in January once the peak tourism season has ended. Access to the building site will be via Beach Street at the back of the existing hall. Eventually this access will become the new theatre’s loading dock. The site office will be located on Market Street in the now vacant shop next to the Horizon Bank (formerly Amelda’s).

The community will still be able to hire and use Twyford Hall, the supper room and kitchen for most of the construction period, subject to some restrictions and minor blackout periods. Twyford’s “Donate-A-Seat” campaign has already raised more than $15 000 and is aiming to raise a total of $200 000 through its online GiveNow gateway at t het

All donations over $2 to the fund are fully tax deductible and donations of $1000 or more will be acknowledged with a name plaque on a seat in the new theatre. Further details are available by calling 64957435 or see The Twyford website at
