CABBI is a ‘not for profit group’ formed over 32 years ago by a small group of local artists so they could come together to meet and exhibit their work. We are very proud that now, in 2018, that group has grown to over 120 members who produce a high standard of work in painting, craft and sculpture.
One of the main advantages of being a member is to be among like minded people. They feel strongly about their craft and are usually more than willing to share ideas and ‘talk art’. To this end we hold a general meeting once a month. After each meeting a newsletter is produced and you will be sent a copy to keep you up to date with all the ‘art happenings’ with the group and in the area.
CABBI also holds several exhibitions throughout the year with a judged competition in the first 2 weeks of January each year. These exhibitions give members a chance to not only sell their work but be rewarded for the standard that they produce.
Also there are varied and interesting workshops for members to attend to hone their skills throughout the year. These are held by experienced presenters in various painting mediums and also sculpture. Dates for workshops will be posted in the newsletter.
We have a ‘plein air’ group who meet once a week at various locations to paint together and new members are always welcome.
The Gallery in Mogo is available for members to exhibit their work. There is also a lending library of informative art books and magazines at the gallery for members to borrow.
Our members are given 10% discount at the following art stores:

TRACEY CREIGHTON – The Artist

From an early age I knew I wanted to be an artist. I was blessed to have grown up within a family who loved to paint, draw and design. My grandmother was a wonderful water-colourist and oil painter, following in the style of the Australian Impressionists, my father was a builder who designed and drew intricate house plans, and my mother created and produced colourful fashion garments. Their positive and creative influence enabled me to see the beauty in life and nature through a spectrum of light, line, colour, pattern and texture.

My art career commenced in my teens when I studied and worked as a graphic designer. Composition, colour, balance and harmony were paramount in every design project and twenty years later when I moved into fine art, I found all those intrinsic elements were vital to all work regardless of the style or period of art.

When painting I draw on my own experiences whether they be spiritual, emotional or physical. I don’t intentionally set out to produce art about any subject or thing in particular but rather allow the painting to lead me. Sometimes my loose initial marks gives me a sense of how the work might develop but I resist the urge to force the painting in any one direction in case the painting becomes contrived and overworked, losing it’s energy and playfulness.

I allow the artwork to direct me as I rejoice in each brush stroke, remaining conscious of the juxtaposition of every element, resulting in a finished painting which evolved naturally. It is only when the painting has clear direction that I intrude on the space and inject my own thoughts and ideas.

My art is infused with strong design, soft linear elements, layers of thin washes or sometimes bold, textural paint, manifesting in a kaleidoscope of colour. Each painting offers me an opportunity to reach into a sacred place within myself, tap into an intangible feeling, then capture and express it in a painterly manner. Each project is a new adventure, each work fashioned to reflect a mood or topic dear to me, whether it be a specific theme, statement of cultural issues or simply a representation of the magnificence of nature.

The past twenty years as a visual artist has seen me develop works which in turn leads to the next body of work. There is a constant and ever flowing dynamism of ideas and techniques which evolve perpetually, allowing me to explore what seems to be the ‘endless possibilities’ of art, and giving the viewer an opportunity to make a connection with my art and discover their own fundamentally curious nature.

Commissioned works are happily undertaken.

TRACEY CREIGHTON – The Tutor

I have been teaching art for nearly 35 years since establishing Queensland’s first private graphic art college (CATC) in Brisbane in 1982. I taught design, typography and finished art to my students who were preparing for a career in the advertising industry.

I ventured into fine art in 1996 after training in America with a young contemporary artist and so began my love of paint and colour. I teach private art lessons and small group workshops here in Merimbula and also interstate.

You can view the painting demonstration video from my episode of ‘Colour in Your Life’ on Youtube or my website.

Lessons and workshops are conducted at intervals right through the year. See my website for more details.

Biographical Info

Bob Georgeson has remained committed to the dada protest and surrealist path since meeting the Czech born Australian surrealist Dusan Marek in Adelaide in 1970. Originally slicing through the eyeball of the intersection of reality and desire with a scalpel in a series of photomontages based on the symbiotic relationship between eroticism and religion, he has more recently turned to the subject of societal collapse and disintegration.

Tired of exhibiting in the white cube he turned to video art in 2012 and began working on collaborative online projects in the Creative Commons. He has since published over 100 experimental films and continues to work with musicians, artists and performers around the world from his home in a remote corner of South Eastern Australia.

Gooseboy Productions is a full service television & video content production house. We have over 30 years experience in news, current affairs, corporate & training materials, lifestyle, factual, children’s, multi-camera live OBs and predominantly advertising & documentaries. We can take projects from concept through to delivery for broadcast, web and DCP cinema files. We run a powerful full 4K edit suite with ample redundancy and capacity. We have a broad range of post skills including grading in DaVinci, extensive After Effects skills and audio mixing.

The Gooseboy team moved to the south Coast 13 years ago. My career started as a commercial & advertising photographer and graphic artist. We still undertake photography and design projects, mainly for clients away from the South Coast. When away from the South Coast I work under my own name.

Known formerly as Image Solutions of Melbourne, a fully accredited, full service, advertising agency & production house. We continue to provide film, photography, graphic design, marketing and advertising services. Making more than 50 projects a years for the last 5 years means we understand delivery, time frames and budgets all whilst remaining true to a creative and commercial brief. I consciously moved out of my previous business to get back to what I love, making great images that tell compelling stories, being a freelance lighting cameraman/DOP & editor is what makes me happy.

We have serviced broad range of clients across many countries, including Myer, Clemengers, AMP, Channel 2, 9 & 7, Sportsgirl, MCG, Hewlett Packard, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, London Underground Authority, Foster’s Group, Linfox, Hilton Hotels, Qantas, BHP, Amcor, ANZ, EPA, NAB, WWF, Army, Warner Bros, Victorian Tourism, Tourism Australia, Ford, Mitsubishi, Boral, Holden, Brown Brothers, AAP, VW, BMW, Tip Top, Gillete, Email, Bega Cheese & a broad range of State & Federal Government Departments and Statutory bodies.

Living remote from hire services means we own our own kit, additionally I am maniacal about reliability and equipment care & testing. A shoot in a remote location will not fall over if one item fails as we always have redundancy. The second half of 2015 will see us invest in additional high end 4K gear and lenses for a particular job.

Lee Grant is an Australian photographer who lives and works in Australia and Asia. She is best known for her exploration of migrant identity against the backdrop of Australian suburbia. Her often formal, colour-portraiture examines identity integration and inhabited landscapes. In doing so, Lee frequently divulges the changing cultural face of Australia. She uses photography as a means of transcending language barriers, revealing aspects of identity, displacement and belonging otherwise in danger of going unnoticed. As a Korean-Australian Lee’s work is in part autobiographical – a means of navigating and interpreting her own identity and heritage, as well as an instrument to inform and inspire broader audiences.

Lee has exhibited at the Australian Centre for Photography (Sydney), the Monash Gallery of Art (Melbourne) and the National Portrait Gallery amongst others and she has won several photography awards including the prestigious William and Winifred Bowness Photography Prize in 2010.

In 2012, Lee published her first book, Belco Pride followed by the publication of her second monograph, The Five Happinesses, in 2015Her photographs are included in the collections of Parliament House Canberra, the National Library of Australia, Monash Gallery of Art, Canberra Museum and Art Gallery as well as numerous private collections.

From 2012-2014, Lee was an active member of the Australian photo-collective, Oculi. She was subsequently represented by international agency Institute for Artist Management from 2014 – 2017.

Lee is currently focusing on her own long-term projects in Australia, North and South Korea and wherever else her interests take her. Lee has a degree in Anthropology and a Masters in Visual Art from the Australian National University, where she also teaches in the Photomedia Department.

In My Element Glass Design

Handcrafted Fused Glass

Originally from the Far South Coast (Bega), in 2016 I relocated from Canberra to live in Batemans Bay, where I re-established my home studio.  I enjoy designing and creating unique display pieces, homeware, jewellery and accessories.

I’m inspired by the patterns, designs and colours in the landscapes that surround me. To create my pieces, I use a glass kiln to fuse and slump the glass, and a range of cold working methods to finish the pieces.  I welcome the opportunity to work on commissioned pieces for special occasions, such as weddings, birthdays, housewarmings, and corporate events.   I also luxury glass pieces for the individual, home or business.

Visitors are welcome to my home studio and showroom at 4 Old Princes Highway, Batemans Bay. To make an appointment, or to find out more, contact me on 0412 267 077.

I am a teacher/actor/writer. My teaching career has taken me from working as a teacher, Principal and Head of School in tiny to large schools throughout Australia, UK and Kenya.

My acting work has been diverse including performances in (Harold Pinter’s ‘Old Times,’ performing in country NSW and the Bondi Pavilion, Sydney), the TV Series (Snobs) the doco/tele-movie about Natalie Wood and as an extra in the film (The Dirty, Rotten Scoundrels) filmed on the Cote d’Azur in the 80’s starring Michael Caine. I have also written, directed and staged productions for youth and adults for most of my career.

I have now written three feature films. ‘She’s a Fat Tart Ain’t She,’ based on the life of the Australian vaudeville jazz singer Pat Thompson; ‘Collision,’ a film about a bunch of street kids in a rural setting and ‘The Elephant Whisperer,’ a film based on the life of Lawrence Anthony for the South African Production Co. Giant Films.

Film credits include (Potoroo Blues) a short film created with marginalised youth juxtaposing their social exclusion with the near extinction of the Australian native mammal the Long-Nose Potoroo as writer/director.

I am also in the process of publishing my first children’s picture book and turning my travel blogs into a novel.

Biographical Info

I have been a practicing professional craft person for more than 30 years, originally studying a Diploma Visual Art at the Canberra School of Art in 1982.

A wood fire specialist with professional studio facilities including 2 large wood kilns, an anagama and trolley kiln that I have built and fired over 40 times for firings of 70-120 hours duration up to temperatures of 1320`C. I specialise in exhibition and functional wares that are inspired by traditional Korean and Japanese wares. My pottery is hand crafted with the unique markings that wood firing provides.

I enjoy working in my natural environment and utilising what it can provide.

In the Bega Valley, I have access to a wealth of raw materials such as clay and glaze materials, black wattle wood ash, feldspar and pyrophelite. I use a combination of clay, stone, wood, fire and ash to enrich and decorate my thrown forms. I guess the appeal is in the endless variations of the natural ash glazes that capture the essence of the clay body and the firing process.

Bandicoot Pottery has been establised since 1990 and is situated about 5 kms east of Cobargo on the Bermagui Road.

The technique of weaving has been passed along generations, re-discovered, and expanded upon throughout the years. Basket making is one of the oldest known crafts. Gabrielle Powell has been making baskets since 2005 whilst formally trained in ceramics at Canberra School of Art in 1985.

Powell is passionate about up-cycling, reusing and recycling. She is an active scavenger, bringing things home from the tip, holidays or collecting useful treasures to incorporate into her next basket. She enjoys the challenge of making baskets from unconventional materials such as tubing, cabling, plastic, wire – items that would normally be discarded. Recycled materials of lesser quality are up-cycled to create new innovative baskets – if it’s flexible; it can be woven! Powell’s works are colourful and sturdy.

I am a writer.
One novel, two more on the way.
Twenty plays for children and young adults with experience in stage direction but no movie experience.

My novel Cull is set in the US and Australia and explores the manipulation that exists and where it could lead in the near future.

‘Asylum’ is a love story set in the Kimberley. A damaged Afghanistan vet has chosen to remove himself from society and spends his time diving for seed oysters. His phone free and internet free exile is shattered when a Vietnamese girl comes ashore, more dead than alive on ‘his’ beach after a storm that wrecks her boat and drowns her passengers and her two brothers.

He is unable to get her to Broome for six weeks, cut off by floodwater and in that time, a relationship of sorts develops.

But it is only after he eventually gets her to Broome and hands her over to authorities that he realises he loves her and will do anything to get her back, and he does… eventually.

Writers of the Far South Coast (WFSC) are an inclusive, non-profit writers club that has been around since 1981. Our members are from all walks of life, young and old, men and women, published and unpublished, who meet regularly on the 3rd Saturday of each month to support each other’s writing goals.

Volunteer members on the WFSC committee understand the unique hardships of living in a rural area. Their efforts go above and beyond, on a shoestring budget, to nurture the talents of local authors and provide reasonably priced, professional development opportunities, closer to home, here on the Far South Coast of NSW, in the Bega Valley Shire.

Authors asked to present our workshops are worth every penny and more, yet ofttimes subsidise their fees or choose to billet with one of our friendly members. With their generosity plus the creative budgeting of the WFSC committee, low annual membership fees, invaluable venue hire waivers, assistance from our sister writing organisations, sporadic donations and elusive grants… the Writers of the Far South Coast keep on writing.
