Biography
Heather Burness is a visual artist with a print based practice. Her work includes in-studio processes and installations of print surfaces in-field that are photo-documented in an ongoing web series title Plate in Situ. She is a master printer for selected artists working under the name Grey Lady Press.
Her work is focussed on ideas of flow and is informed by the social and cultural context of human relationships with water in Australia. There is influence from local Aboriginal knowledge and western scientific thinking about the sites she has explored; at the mouth of the Murray in the Coorong, in the Wimmera districts of Victoria, the flood lake systems and foul lagoons near Mildura and in Yirrkala in North East Arnhem Land.
Heather was awarded The Capital Arts Patrons Organisation Fellowship in 2011 and has a Master of Philosophy from the ANU School of Art (2004). She has works in the collections of Australian regional galleries, The State Library of NSW and The National Gallery of Australia. She was a sessional lecturer and tutor at the ANU School of Art in etching, drawing and studio theory from 1996 to 2009, 2011 and 2012.
