Biographical Info

CABBI is a ‘not for profit group’ formed over 32 years ago by a small group of local artists so they could come together to meet and exhibit their work. We are very proud that now, in 2018, that group has grown to over 120 members who produce a high standard of work in painting, craft and sculpture.
One of the main advantages of being a member is to be among like minded people. They feel strongly about their craft and are usually more than willing to share ideas and ‘talk art’. To this end we hold a general meeting once a month. After each meeting a newsletter is produced and you will be sent a copy to keep you up to date with all the ‘art happenings’ with the group and in the area.
CABBI also holds several exhibitions throughout the year with a judged competition in the first 2 weeks of January each year. These exhibitions give members a chance to not only sell their work but be rewarded for the standard that they produce.
Also there are varied and interesting workshops for members to attend to hone their skills throughout the year. These are held by experienced presenters in various painting mediums and also sculpture. Dates for workshops will be posted in the newsletter.
We have a ‘plein air’ group who meet once a week at various locations to paint together and new members are always welcome.
The Gallery in Mogo is available for members to exhibit their work. There is also a lending library of informative art books and magazines at the gallery for members to borrow.
Our members are given 10% discount at the following art stores:
•       Frame Fast Art Haven, North St, Batemans Bay….. Art Supplies and Framing 4472 4174
•       Amanda’s of Mogo, Princess Highway, Mogo ……..Art Supplies 4474 3453

Biographical Info

I have been a practicing professional craft person for more than 30 years, originally studying a Diploma Visual Art at the Canberra School of Art in 1982.

A wood fire specialist with professional studio facilities including 2 large wood kilns, an anagama and trolley kiln that I have built and fired over 40 times for firings of 70-120 hours duration up to temperatures of 1320`C. I specialise in exhibition and functional wares that are inspired by traditional Korean and Japanese wares. My pottery is hand crafted with the unique markings that wood firing provides.

I enjoy working in my natural environment and utilising what it can provide.

In the Bega Valley, I have access to a wealth of raw materials such as clay and glaze materials, black wattle wood ash, feldspar and pyrophelite. I use a combination of clay, stone, wood, fire and ash to enrich and decorate my thrown forms. I guess the appeal is in the endless variations of the natural ash glazes that capture the essence of the clay body and the firing process.

Bandicoot Pottery has been establised since 1990 and is situated about 5 kms east of Cobargo on the Bermagui Road.

Biographical Info

The technique of weaving has been passed along generations, re-discovered, and expanded upon throughout the years. Basket making is one of the oldest known crafts. Gabrielle Powell has been making baskets since 2005 whilst formally trained in ceramics at Canberra School of Art in 1985.

Powell is passionate about up-cycling, reusing and recycling. She is an active scavenger, bringing things home from the tip, holidays or collecting useful treasures to incorporate into her next basket. She enjoys the challenge of making baskets from unconventional materials such as tubing, cabling, plastic, wire – items that would normally be discarded. Recycled materials of lesser quality are up-cycled to create new innovative baskets – if it’s flexible; it can be woven! Powell’s works are colourful and sturdy.
