LADIES IN BLACK is from a book written by Carolyn Burns, adapted from the book A Woman in Black by Madeleine St John and features music by Tim Finn, acclaimed singer/songwriter with Split Enz and Crowded House.
This Australian musical has been produced by the Queensland Theatre Company and The Melbourne Theatre Company and was recently adapted into a highly successful feature film directed by Bruce Beresford.
It is a show about growth, transformation and the celebration of femininity, set in the fictional retail wonderland of “Goodes Department Store,” against the backdrop of Sydney Australia in 1959.
In the summer of 1959, Lisa, a shy schoolgirl, takes a job in Sydney’s prestigious department store Goode’s. There, her life is changed forever when she meets the “ladies in black.”
