A small and succinct exhibition of paintings in distinctly different media by four of the Artists Society of Canberra’s (ASOC) prize-winning artists.
The Artists represented are Isla Patterson, Marijke Gilchrist, Cornelia Smith and Alan J. Jones. Each artist brings their unique style in a select medium from watercolours, encaustics, oils and mixed media.
Isla Patterson’s watercolours offer delicate interpretations of scenes in Wollongong, Thredbo, the Kimberleys, Huskisson, and of wrens and cherry blossom. Camelia Smith similarly offers still life watercolours of fruit, but also of the Water Hen and a setting on a stripped tablecloth. Alan Jones’ landscapes in oils range from his love of the Lakes in the UK through to the outback dessert, gums in the snowy mountains, and trees in the snow; plus an interpretation of light reflection using mixed media. The seascapes of Marijke Gilchrist in encaustics (bees-wax) offer a new view to the traditional coastal setting.
In all, these Canberra Artists provide 21paintings, only a small segment of the artistic activities of the Artists Society of Canberra which celebrated its 90th anniversary since its founding in 1927. We hope this is just the beginning of showing visitors to Spiral just what it is that Canberra has to offer in art.
Please come and view the Exhibition in Gallery 2 of the Spiral Gallery from December 27th 2017 to January 17th 2018. Alan, who is the President of the Artists Society of Canberra will be at Spiral during the first week of January.
