In June 2019, Create NSW invited Expressions of Interest from arts and cultural leaders to join Create NSW Artform Advisory Boards.
The purpose of the Artform Advisory Boards is to assess applications made to the Arts and Cultural Funding Program to provide recommendations and advise the Minister on strategic directions for the sector.
The Minister for the Arts Don Harwin has selected the following Chairs who will lead a cross-sector of arts and cultural leaders in their respective artforms:
- Aboriginal Arts & Culture Board – Wesley Enoch
- Classical Music Board – Naseema Sparks AM
- Contemporary Music Board – Ben Marshall
- Dance & Physical Theatre Board – Karen Moses
- Literature Board – Jennifer Byrne
- Multi-arts & Festivals Board – Ross Harley
- Museums & History Board – Kim McKay AO
- Opera, Musical Theatre & Chorus Board – Rory Jeffes
- Theatre Board – Noel Staunton
- Visual Arts Board – Simon Mordant AM
We are pleased to announce Tathra’s Lee Pemberton will sit on the Dance & Physical Theatre Board. Lee is an influential dance artist and choreographer with a career in regional arts leadership spanning over 35 years, working with youth at risk for more than five years as Director of fLiNG Physical Theatre. She is a mentor to emerging choreographers and in 2016 was a Create NSW Regional Arts Fellow.
David Francis, Executive Director, Four Winds will sit on the Classical Musical Board. He is also recognised for his managerial and directorial experience with Sydney Philharmonia Choirs and Arts Council England.
Bee Cruse, storyteller and artist, based in Sydney, with strong familial connections to Aboriginal communities on the Far South Coast, will sit on the Aboriginal Arts and Culture Board along side Regional Arts Development Officer Jamie-Lea Trindall from our sister organisation Outback Arts. Michelle Hall – Director of Aboriginal music strategy at Orana Arts will be part of the Contemporary Music Board.
Several visual arts luminaries from regional NSW are represented on the Visual Arts Board. Regional Arts Development Officer – Peter Wood– Executive Director, Arts Northern Rivers is on the Multi-arts and Festivals Board.
Applications to Create NSW’s Arts and Cultural Funding Program 2019/20 current round, which provides funding opportunities for arts and cultural organisations, professional artists and arts/cultural workers across a wide range of artforms and disciplines, close 2 September 2019.
