Visual artists at the start of their careers are encouraged to apply for the Create NSW and Artspace 2019 NSW Visual Arts Fellowship (Emerging).
This Fellowship is aimed at providing early-career artists with an opportunity to undertake a program of professional development supporting personal and career advancement.
Create NSW Executive Director, Investment and Engagement, Elizabeth W. Scott said that the Fellowship will enable an emerging artist to take a major step early in their career.
“The NSW Visual Arts Fellowship (Emerging) is a critical milestone for an emerging artist to take their practice to the next level through activities including travel, mentorships, internships and the creation of new works,” said Ms Scott.
As part of the assessment process, a shortlist of up to 12 artists will be selected by an independent panel of experts, managed by Create NSW, to participate in an exhibition at Artspace, Sydney.
“In our 23rd year of offering this exciting Fellowship with Artspace, the exhibition of shortlisted artists will be shown to new Australian audiences ahead of a final Fellow being announced.” Ms Scott said that the 2018 NSW Visual Arts Fellowship (Emerging) is set to open doors for
its most recent recipient, EO Gill.
“EO Gill will shortly undertake a career-changing professional development program across Toronto, Montreal and New York, learning from international peers and developing new skills and networks in queer video-making.”
Previous recipients of the Fellowship include Ramesh Mario Nithiyendran, Soda Jerk, Jamie North, Consuelo Cavaniglia, Heath Franco and Claudia Nicholson, who is currently participating in Vivid 2019 with her work projected onto the MCA Australia facade.
Applications for the 2019 fellowship open Monday 17 June and close 5pm Monday 15 July 2019. For more information including details on how to apply, visit www.create.nsw.gov.au
