Artist Statement

I have chosen these 6 photos as a small cross section of my work. I tend to Work three-dimensionally and thematically on particular issues that I sympathize with (in this case Afghani orphans and respect for our heritage) and my work can be hard-hitting and confrontational at times but much of my work also has a sense of humour.  My work has been mostly figurative and acutely realistic while at times conveying exaggerations, abstractions or distortions of parts.

Clay is my preferred medium.  I enjoy the challenge of how the slightest mark can change the whole character of a piece, and the transformation from pliable to permanent. In this age of mass-production and disposability, it's rather special to create something by hand that no-one else in the world will ever have, and, if you cherish it, that unique piece of sculpture, saying so much about today, could still be around telling a story in many years time.
