Zeal Theatre Company - March

In late March, Zeal Theatre Company toured their new show Cain to high schools in the region, supported by South East Arts. Over 800 students in 5 schools watched the show. The story concerned group of Year 11s who are forming a band, and the younger kids who hang around with them. The band is offered a gig at the School's Year 10 Presentation Night and this event brings into sharp relief the motivations of the band members. The play looks at a range of home lives, meeting most of the main character's parents, some well off, some struggling, some loving and nurturing, some destructive. Cain was performed with great energy in the usual Zeal Theatre style, with the three performers playing 30 characters. The students responded with enthusiasm and laughter, particularly when the cast played a range of teenager characters. And there was excellent live music peppered throughout the show. Zeal are planning to return to the region soon to bring more of their shows to high school students.

Wind in the Willows Tour - April

The Wind in the Willows tour was a huge success with just over 610 children and adults attending 10 performances throughout the south east region in April. Actor Chris John played the role of Mr Badger to present Kenneth Grahame’s classic story through performance and puppetry. The tour was arranged by South East Arts in partnership with the local libraries and councils. With financial support from both partners, the shows were presented free for general public audiences.
